SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Students are not required to bring school supplies from home for class since the school provides all that is needed. However, if your child wants to bring his or her own extra pencils and erasers, that is fine. I do discourage large art kits or crayon boxes since they do not fit in the desks. Please have your child bring a backpack to school daily to carry homework and important papers to and from school.
Even though we provide supplies at school, it is important for your child to have the following supplies at home so that your child can complete homework assignments:
- pencils
- erasers
- pencil sharpener
- a ruler with both inch and centimeter marks
- scissors
- glue
- colored pencils or crayons
- staple remover
CLASSROOM WISH LIST
Every year I have parents ask me what I need in the classroom. I'm usually at a loss of ideas when they inquire, so I've made up a list. If you would like to help supply our classroom with needed supplies, here is a list of items that always come in handy:
- boxes of tissue
- disinfecting wipes
- pencils for the class
- erasers for the class
- zip lock bags, sandwich size
- treasure box items (party favors, gently used happy meal toys, etc.)
STUDENT BIRTHDAYS
Due to the fact that our school is promoting healthy choices, sugary
treats such as cupcakes and brownies are no longer allowed to be brought to
school for the students’ birthdays.
Birthday acknowledgements should take a minimal amount of time and
should not be disruptive to classroom instruction. In class we sing Happy Birthday to the birthday child. I also give the student a
special eraser, a pencil, and a sticker.
If you would like to bring something to school for the entire class on
your child’s birthday please contact me ahead of time. Some appropriate alternatives to unhealthy treats are:
* Treat the class to party favors such as pencils, erasers, or other small gifts (don't overdo, it's not a contest).
* Donate a book to the school or classroom library in honor of your child with a dedication to your child on the inside cover.
* Bring healthy individually wrapped treats such as popcorn, raisins, granola bars, etc.

PRINCIPAL'S RECESS
Principal’s
Recess occurs about once every two months to reward students that have met the
requirements. It is up to the teachers
to evaluate if a student has met the requirements for good citizenship and
scholarship, however good attendance is based upon the office records. It is not up to the teachers to determine
if a tardy or absence is excused or not.
A child is marked tardy if
he or she enters the classroom door after the 8:00 bell. School actually begins at 7:55. The complete
requirements for Principal’s Recess are as follows:
* Good Citizenship: Zero referrals to the office and no more than one check by name.
* Good Attendance: No more than one unexcused tardy and absence.
* Good Scholarship: All classwork is completed within class standards and missed no more than one homework assignment.
* Good Attendance: No more than one unexcused tardy and absence.
* Good Scholarship: All classwork is completed within class standards and missed no more than one homework assignment.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB ORDERS
Encouraging reading is one of the most important things we can do to help your child succeed. it can be tough finding the right books to keep them interested, which is why I am so excited that our class will be participating in the Scholastic Reading Club this school year. Also, every book you buy earns FREE books for our classroom library! Periodically, your child will bring home Reading Club flyers. Together you can choose books, and then either order them online, or you can send your order form (and check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs) to me. You can actually order books online any time during the school year. I will receive an email from Scholastic indicating that an order has been placed
